Ran the trails again today. It is so nice to get back on the trails and also to see them in such good shape. It is great to see all the Mtn Bikers out and enjoying the trails. I feel a real attachment to the trails and to some of the friends that I see there from time to time. Occasionally someone will yell out my name and some sort of encouragement. There is a set of unwritten rules we all subscribe to complete with etiquette and code. For social and safety reasons we let each other know how many in our group and anything of interest directly ahead. This occurs quickly in passing or sometimes like today there is a longer moment to share and actually talk. As you may have guessed from the title of this post, it was a deer on the trails. As I came up one of my favourite rises there were 3 bikers paused on the trail. Sometimes you see a group resting but I could see that they were looking down the trail. A beautiful deer was perhaps 30 yards ahead, coming off a hill. I stopped and we talked about the deer we see on the trails. I once saw a group of about 12 or so at dusk traversing from one side of the valley to the other. The herd moved quietly through the fading light. We talked for a minute or two and then resumed our journeys. A brief beautiful wild moment in the midst of Toronto.
Today was my last hometown run before Boston. It is always special and full of positive talk. Today I told myself that barring my left groin acting up Monday will be a very special day. I will be at the marathon I love most with the woman I love most and running like the wind.
Again good luck to all from a lucky guy
